SR&ED is a Canadian tax credit program which gives money back to businesses that innovate. Along with provincial programs of a similar nature, the refunds can be substantial. In a difficult economy, businesses of all sizes need to find ways to preserve and recover cash, and the Canadian Government has a "bailout" for many.
Canadian Controlled Private Corporations (CCPCs for short) are eligible for work conducted in Canada supporting the program objectives, which are:
- technological advancement no matter how small
- technological uncertainty (unknown level of risk) having to do with the technological advancement
- an experimental process of achieving the technological advancement
As can reasonably be inferred, there is room for many projects to fit such requirements, and there is an understanding that the SR&ED program strengthens the competitiveness of Canadian businesses, especially in an economy where stimulus is needed.
Yet there are many ways to submit an incorrect or incomplete claim, and a great deal of homework needs to be done to be ready for a potential technology or claim audit. Therefore, clients are well advised to work with qualified SR&ED consultants. TCEG works with volume clients on the "wholesale" level of SR&ED practice, but would be glad to refer clients to front-line SR&ED companies that we serve.
Encompassing the newest technology and practices into our SR&ED work, TCEG ensures that all due diligence is done, and that the preparation work is done with the utmost skill and professionalism. This includes review of the technological and financial aspects of the claim. TCEG provides several free tools which its clients and member SR&ED preparation firms can use to give timely information about expected SR&ED outcomes, improve turn-around times and reduce the possibilities of errors.
Additionally, TCEG provides the opportunity to meet with consultants in your downtown Vancouver or GVRD offices, or by phone at your convenience.
